When we try to look into the lives of the Sahabah to find examples of brotherhood, it feels like a child in a chocolate shop being asked to choose their favourite chocolate. It becomes difficult to choose from.
But then you realise what a chocolate shop is about –sweetness. It the same way with the Sahabah. It’s like their religion was tied around the brotherhood such that if you separated their religion from brotherhood, it becomes incomplete.
"Creeping upon you is the diseases of those people
before you: envy and hatred. And hatred is the thing that shaves. I do not say
it shaves the hair but it shaves the religion!
By the One in whose Hand is my soul, you will not enter paradise until you believe, and you will not believe until you love one another. Certainly, let me inform you of that which may establish such things: spread the greetings and peace among yourselves." [Imam Ahmad and Al-Tirmidhi]
Brotherhood is a fundamental ingredient. It’s why the pillars of Islam are tied around the community.
“The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers. And fear Allah that you may receive mercy.” [49:10]
Lastly, the Prophet [SAW] said regarding companionship:
“A good friend and a bad friend are like a perfume-seller and a blacksmith: The perfume-seller might give you some perfume as a gift, or you might buy some from him, or at least you might smell its fragrance. As for the blacksmith, he might singe your clothes, and at the very least you will breathe in the fumes of the furnace.” [Bukhari, Muslim]
May Allah bless us with the best of companions Herenow and Hereafter.
The mistakes are mine and Allah knows best.
