Zainab Musa : A Letter to my Future Husband; I Plan to Make You Happy in this World and the Hereafter (1)

I am spending this holy month worshiping Allah (s.w.t) and praying for several things, but my key prayer point is for Allah to lead me to a good, pious husband. They say whoever one ends up with can make, mar and even kill one. I have decided to write a letter to this husband and share. I hope he gets to reads this wherever he is. My future spouse, We have not met but I believe we will meet sooner than later. While I await your grand arrival, I want to use this opportunity to tell you how I would be forever grateful and submitted to Almighty Allah for giving me such a marvellous, God-fearing man in you. I want to make you the best of Ummah and husband in the sight of our Creator by making you happy everyday of our lives. I promise to follow the will of Almighty and sunnah of Rosulullahi (p.b.u.h) in creating for you a peaceful environment with blessed children (Ma Sha Allah). My husband, please allow me to quickly quote my favourite hadiths on this subject just so that you realise how big a deal this is to me. “This life is a joy and its best joy is a good wife” [Muslim], also, “A woman is married for four reasons: for her wealth, for her fame, for her beauty and for her (adherence to) religion. So marry one for her religion and you will win” [Bukhari & Muslim] also, “Four are causes of happiness: A good wife, a big house, a good neighbour and a good way of transportation” [Al-Hakim]. I want to be part of all these to you and so much more. As I mentioned earlier, I don’t know you yet, I don’t know where you live or if we have met sometimes in the past. I find myself wondering what you look like; your height, body shape and skin tone. Even the sound of your voice, what your laugh sounds like, but I know everyone is equal in the eye of Allah except in level of piety. If jazzy blues and afro hip hop make you stop in your tracks, or is it the Qur’an you prefer listening to as opposed to 'skelewu' or 'on-top-your-matter', I do not know for now. Do you enjoy reading quietly at home or watching live performances, I need to know all these and much more very soon. I want to know your best moments and what you love most in the world, your tastes, your likes, what tickles your fancy and your dreams for this world and the hereafter. I want to grow old and grey with you and be the mother of your children. I want to know if you are selfless and give of yourself in charity or would rather buy a Ferrari or Bugatti or even both. These are all key information to me. I want to share everything with you; your bed (I do not believe in separate bedrooms, mind you), your home, your heart, your time, your career and your family. I do not only want a father for my children, I want a companion, a best friend, lover and soul mate. I want to know the buttons I can push and when to push it, it is imperative to know what turns you on and off, when you are edgy and how you react to situations. I am also big on wisdom, being smart, quality of your mind and the depth of your thinking and reasoning. What I know and promise is that I will treat you like me because you and I are ONE. I will love you dearly, deeply, truly, maybe madly. *lol. I will inculcate creativity into our world and always surprise you with new things. I will satisfy you in bed and in kitchen in every halal possible way. Regardless of who we are, what we become and what happens, I plan to do the best to make you happy as we spend our lives together, forever. I know I may sound idealistic, 'cartoonish', young and inexperienced, but this is all I ask for and I know Allah will lead me to you. Will further enumerate how I plan to do these for you my dear husband. To be continued........ *Zainab Musa (not real name) is a recent graduate working in the healthcare sector and a budding writer
